Known as the “Bluegrass State” because of the bluegrass found on its pastures, Kentucky is also famous for the Kentucky Derby, bourbon and, of course, Kentucky Fried Chicken! 1. Taste of Richmond

An annual outdoor family event featuring live bands and all-you-can-eat tastings from Richmond’s finest restaurants and local dining establishments.

2. Kentucky Highland Renaissance Festival

A permanent renaissance festival located on a former farmland in Eminence, Kentucky and set in the fictional early 14th century village of Briarwood in the Highlands of Scotland under the rule of Robert the Bruce.It features live entertainment, music, jousting, dancing and more.

3. Crescent Hill Old-Fashioned 4th of July Art & Music Festival

An old-fashioned way to celebrate Independence Day with live music, art fair, pet show, food, games and activities for the kids, and the highlight of the evening, fireworks.

4. Perseids Meteor Shower Watch in Lexington

A short walk up a hill will give you great views of the Perseid Meteor Shower. And this year, a particularly intense one is expected with rates up to 200 meteors per hour.

5. McCracken County Fair

The annual fair features carnival rides, pet parades, talent shows, beauty contests, harness racing, car racing, demolition derby, horse and livestock shows, and a whole lot more.
